A super podcast on Kala’s book - ‘The Forest I Know’. The ‘beauty, transience, & mysterious Grace’ of Tanka - speaks to me in more ways than one . . .Loved listening to Kala in her deliciously mellifluous voice. Enjoyed it very much. ❤️

Wonderful podcast dear Kala! It’s akin to a Masterclass…so much to learn from you. Drinking deep the beauty and depth of your words, they will always resonate in my heart. Claire’s Qs too are very insightful and your spontaneity and knowledge shines through in your responses. The icing on the cake is your mellifluous and flawless rendition of the tanka: the mastery of breath, the pauses and the repetitions that make the tanka’s spirit come alive. Congratulations! 🙏💕💐

Neena,

I'm bankrupt for words. Just saying "thank you" seems so inadequate.

You have mentioned and applauded all that I have been working for all these years ...it's a gift to be understood

Thank you for this feedback. It will stay with me for a long time.

I enjoyed listening to the podcast. Kala's experience as a Tanka poet is so rich indeed. Anyone who is interested in the art of composing tanka must listen to the dialogue. I for one, will listen to it again to understand the nuances in the form. The podcast is a wonderful resource. Thank you Kala and Claire for the podcast!

Much needed for me at this point to remind the importance of writing discipline and also the healing power of writing / tanka.

Gauri,

Thank you. Happy you liked the podcast. Claire does it so well. I just breezed through, didn't feel any strain at all.

Yes, writing should become a force of habit! It will, if you allow it to become!

How wonderful to see an interview with you on here Kala! I don't know if you remember me, but I used to edit Haiku News with Laurence Stacey, and we published some of your work all those years ago. :-) Anyway, such a joy to see you interviewed as part of this podcast - and if you're interested, I am doing a newsletter here now which does some haiku posts from time to time, alongside other poetry. Keep up the great work, and hope to see you around!

An engrossing interview. Listening to Kala's passion for Japanese forms of poetry spilling from her voice and her many creative plans to explore it is always inspiring. I liked what she said about tanka being the middle of the story leaving the reader to add his own beginning and ending. Also, her painter-friend's advice will stay with me. The moment we write or paint about is not to be repeated as that moment becomes the past. Thank you Claire and Kala.

This is an exquisite interview- conversation! The vast expanse of your artistic journey, your joy in layering the different poetic forms, your deep expertise, your untireing commitment to create nurturing communities and your new adventures to further the horizons of 'companion art forms' - each one of these is so commendable. Overarching all of these - are your spiritual moorings and grace. Thank you so much for this treasure.

I enjoyed this podcast/interview immensely, dear Claire & Kala!!! 👏😀 With my minimal knowledge of tanka, I still find it particularly hard to hear the beats/rhythm though... Perhaps it is the speed at which you recite them? 🙏👏 Fondly, Michael 🐸
