Online Poetry Reading Fundraiser on the Theme of ´Hope´.
Sunday 10th August 11 am and 6 pm CET
Wee olive branch sparrow by Colin Thom
‘I carry on my shoulders the pain of a nation / and on my lips, the voice of defiance.’ Haia Mohammed’s poems are full of pain and defiance, grief and joy. They refuse to be reduced to one emotion, one reality. She writes, ‘I will not seek your pity.’ Because Gaza doesn’t need our pity. And when Gaza’s poets speak, we listen. Mohammed’s poetry documents, questions, and resists. Listen.

The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press will be hosting two online poetry readings as a fundraiser to support the phenomenal Palestinian poet Haia Mohammed .
We invite you to join us to read your poems on the theme of ´hope´. One poem per poet. There´s no pressure to read or have your camera on. If you want to come along and just listen, that´s absolutely fine.
When? Sunday 10th August at 11 am and 6 pm Central European Time. We hope these times allow as many poets as possible in our international community to join us.
Where? On Zoom. Email theweesparrowpoetrypress@gmail.com for the link and please specify which reading you will be attending, with the option of coming along to both.
This is a fundraising event and you can donate directly to Haia´s fundraising page. Details will be given when you email confirming attendance.
Haia Mohammed´s debut pamphlet "The Age of Olive Trees" published by Out Spoken Press is fantastic. All proceeds support Haia in Gaza.
“Haia Mohammed’s poems feel to me like the most important work being written in the world today. They are staggeringly impactful in their honesty, strength and beauty. The people of Gaza, as Haia says, are different; they write poems that defy death. These pieces are miracles of language and spirit, they are humanity at its best and most resilient.”

count me in.
Would love to be there but have already got a poetry workshop booked for that evening. But I'll donate. Such a good cause to support.
