Wee haiku sparrows watercolour by Colin Thom
What an absolute joy and delight to collaborate with The British Haiku Society in offering this free online haiku workshop to The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press community. BHS President Iliyana Stoyanova´s presentation was clear and concise, perfect for beginners and for more experienced haiku poets too. The turnout was fantastic with over 60 poets joining live from as far away as New Zealand and Japan. A wonderful time was had by all!
Iliyana invited participants to write their own seasonal haiku responding to four beautiful images. She also asked participants to have a go at rewriting one of Basho´s haiku. As you are watching the video there will be a 10 minute writing pause, so grab a pen and paper and write your own haiku and pop them in the comments if you would like to share them.
*a wee correction to the typing error in the powerpoint: tanka traditionally have 5/7/5/7/7 syllables.
The British Haiku Society´s website is a wonderful resource. You can find it here.
The Wee Sparrow Poetry Press has a monthly submission window open at The Wee Sparrow Haiku Nook with our editor Marc Brimble. You can find it here.
Some Wee Sparrow Poetry Podcast episodes about haiku and tanka which you will enjoy are conversations with Kala Ramesh, Bruce H. Feingold and Dr Jasmin Kirkbride. You can find the podcast here.
Happy writing and listening!
